Ai Robotics Engineer

The Robotics Engineer will lead the design, integration, and optimization of robotic systems-primarily ABB platforms-within advanced manufacturing lines and labs for battery packs, modules, and energy storage products. This role focuses on implementing precision laser welding solutions using systems such as Trumpf and Precitec, while ensuring throughput, quality, and safety standards are met. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical expertise in industrial robotics, laser processes, and cell automation, and thrive in a highly collaborative, fast-paced engineering environment.

Key Responsibilities

Robotic System Integration

  • Program, commission, and maintain ABB industrial robots (IRC5/RAPID) for automated laser welding, material handling, and assembly operations
  • Design and integrate end-of-arm tooling, vision systems, sensors, and safety systems for flexible automation cells
  • Collaborate with controls engineers to ensure seamless PLC/robot communication and cycle synchronization

Laser Welding Engineering

  • Integrate, and optimize fiber and diode laser systems (e.g., Trumpf TruDisk, Precitec seam tracking heads) for high-speed precision welding of aluminum, copper, and stainless steel battery components
  • Define and tune welding parameters for repeatable, high-quality joints, including weld seam alignment and process monitoring (pyrometry, cameras, etc.)
  • Interface with laser OEMs and integrators to implement advanced capabilities such as real-time seam tracking, closed-loop control and vision systems

Process Development & Optimization

  • Develop standardized, scalable robotic welding processes for battery modules, packs, and related subassemblies
  • Lead continuous improvement efforts for cycle time reduction, process robustness, and equipment uptime

Fixture & Cell Design Support

  • Collaborate with mechanical engineers to design robot-accessible fixtures and tooling that ensure part repeatability and weld access
  • Contribute to offline programming and simulation (e.g., RobotStudio) to validate robot paths, reachability, and collision-free operation

Cross-Functional & Project Leadership

  • Serve as a subject matter expert on robotics and laser welding during new line development, prototyping, and production scaling
  • Coordinate with manufacturing, quality, and product design teams to ensure manufacturability and process alignment
  • Support capex planning, vendor selection, and installation of new automation assets

Teaching and Training

  • Train operators how to operate robot systems you developĀ
