Internet Archive is looking for a senior AI engineer to help build the future of digital libraries. With trillions of web documents, millions of books, recordings, and software programs, our collection of over 100 petabytes of cultural heritage artifacts makes for a unique opportunity to serve the public interest. Key Responsibilities
Develop models and AI solutions for search, curation, machine vision, accessibility, and operations
Design, test, deploy, and maintain AI systems
Build without the cloud in our on-premises data centers
Collaborate with other engineers to integrate AI into broader system architectures, prepare and clean data, and orchestrate petabyte-scale data engineering
Stay current with AI trends and advise on technology, strategic, and policy questions in AI, as well as make suggestions for improvements in existing Internet Archive systems.
Basic Qualifications
At least 5 years of experience in ML using frameworks like PyTorch
Experience bringing practical AI solutions to market. From concept, through implementation, to iterating post release.
Strong general programming skills
Excellent interpersonal/communication skills, and the ability to work as part of a team
Ability to plan, organize, prioritize tasks, and complete assigned projects with minimal supervision
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working with petabyte scale data
Experience with Scala and Spark
Experience with HDFS
Experience with machine vision
Experience creating or fine-tuning LLMs
Experience enhancing search with techniques like RAG
Experience working in an on-premises environment (we own and operate our own data centers)
Job Details
This is a remote-first position working in a distributed team. Candidates will need to have some time overlap with primarily North America (and largely Pacific Time) based colleagues. Compensation and title will be commensurate with experience and the role is open to candidates of varying seniority with a general, but negotiable, salary range of $120,000 to $150,000.
